I am a clinician educator with a particular interest in diabetes and obesity. Boarded in Adult Endocrinology as well as General Pediatrics, my clinic work has focused on Adult Diabetes as well as Adult and Pediatric Obesity. I work mainly at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital caring for the San Francisco Safety Net Population.

I am a nurse educator and the program coordinator for the Diabetes Teaching Center. I am a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, with a focused interest in supporting Diabetes Technologies.

Marina Demetsky

Administrative Assistant

I am the Administrative Assistant for the  Diabetes Teaching Center. I coordinate scheduling for individual appointments and group classes and provide classroom support. I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse and fluent in written and spoken Russian.

Lawrence Fisher, PhD, ABPP

Dr. Fisher is a clinical psychologist, teaches classes in diabetes research and clinical care and trains diabetes clinicians in helping adults with diabetes and their families manage the behavioral and emotional aspects of disease management over time. He sees adults with diabetes at the UCSF Diabetes Teaching Center.

Talya Kurzion, RD, MS, CDCES

I am the dietitian educator for the Diabetes Teaching Center.  I am a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.  I see clients with Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, Secondary Diabetes and prediabetes individually and am instructed for the program's group classes.

Umesh Masharani, MBBS

Endocrinology

Dr. Masharani is a Clinical Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine, UCSF. He has an active clinical practice treating patients with Diabetes and other endocrine disorders. Dr Masharani also is a Co-Investigator on a number of NIH funded diabetes studies at UCSF.
